About
Hello!
I'm Juni Margrie. I'm an aerospace engineer turned potter with a preference for wheel thrown functional porcelain pieces.
I'm currently based in Brisbane/Meanjin, Australia but began my pottery journey while living in the US, from 2015 to 2022. After enrolling in my first 6 week class, I truly fell in love with clay. Here was something that enabled me to work tactilely (which was a relief from the previous ‘thinking’, or rather, ‘overthinking’ I was doing) to create something beautiful yet functional that we incorporate in our daily routines. I learned as much as I could from other potters and teachers about the basic fundamentals of throwing, hand building and glazing.
We potters love our tools, and one of my favourite tools to use is a really good, sharp trimming tool. When I first tried tungsten carbide tools on my porcelain pieces, I was so surprised and delighted with how effective and precise I was able to trim, thanks to the hardness and sharpness of the tungsten carbide material. When my husband and I moved our family back to Australia I was disappointed to not be able to find a local tungsten carbide tool supplier. That's what motivated us to make our own tungsten carbide tools, starting with the classic 'D' or teardrop shape that seems to be the most versatile.
Our small business is about exactly what it's name implies: really good, useful, quality made clay tools for the everyday potter.
